A group of researchers at MIT have reported the invention of a “Solar Concentrator” which allows ordinary windows to be transformed into energy producing devices. In the article the scientists describe how ‘painting’ a pane of glass or plastic with a combination of dyes allows the solar rays to be focused on photovoltaic cells around the perimeter of the window thereby increasing the efficiency of the cells by nearly forty fold.

The scientists claim the simple nature of the technology could bring about a marketable product within 3 years.
